A WALK TO DEMONSTRATE OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED GYPSY AND TRAVELLER SITE WILL TAKE PLACE ON 30TH AUGUST AT 11.30 AM STARTING AT THE DOCTORS’ SURGERY, IN SPRING LANE
THE VILLAGE HAS DEMONSTRATED ITS MASSIVE OPPOSITION TO THE GYPSY AND TRAVELLER SITE PROPOSALS AND THIS HAS MADE ITS MARK WITH THE OFFICERS AND COUNCILLORS AT SOUTH CAMBS DISTRICT COUNCIL
WE NEED TO SHOW THEM AGAIN HOW STRONGLY RESIDENTS FEEL ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
THE PRESS HAVE BEEN INVITED WITH THEIR PHOTOGRAPHERS AND WE HAVE TOLD THEM TO EXPECT A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF PEOPLE TO BE TAKING PART.
WE MUST HAVE A BIG TURN OUT IF WE ARE TO AGAIN IMPRESS THE COUNCILLORS AND OFFICERS HOW DETERMINED EVERYONE IS TO STOP THE DEVELOPMENT OF A TRAVELLERS’ AND GYPSY SITE IN SUCH AN INAPPROPRIATE PLACE.
WE NEED YOU, YOUR FAMILY, INCLUDING CHILDREN AND FRIENDS, YOUR DOG IF YOU HAVE ONE AND PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE THE VILLAGE WHO USE SPRING LANE FOR LEISURE AND RECREATION.
THE WALK IS RELATIVELY SHORT, WILL NOT TAKE MUCH MORE THAN 30 MINUTES, AND ENDS IN FORD WOOD. IT IS TIMED SO PEOPLE WHO WISH TO ARE ABLE TO GO TO CHURCH BEFOREHAND, AND ATTEND BASSFEST, WHICH STARTS AT 4.00PM.
PLEASE TAKE PART AND BE AT THE DOCTOR’S SURGERY IN SPRING LANE AT 11.30am ON SUNDAY 30TH AUGUST
(Disclaimer: all who take part do so entirely at their own risk.)
I had assumed that the consultation process would make it easy for people to get involved. I realise today that the exhibition in Bassingbourn is scheduled for a single afternoon, Friday 24th July, from 1pm till 8pm. This is 2 days after our public meeting which is being organised within the village, so hopefully people will be aware in time. For those of us who work during the day, and may have commitments in the early evening on a Friday the only other option is to view the exhibition at an alternative location – listed below.
Location | Date | Time |
---|---|---|
The Ploughman Hall, West Fen Road, Willingham, CB24 5LP | 20 July 2009 | 1-8 pm |
Cottenham Village College (Common Room), Cottenham, CB24 8UA | 22 July 2009 | 1-8 pm |
The Limes Communal Room, High Street, Bassingbourn, SG8 5ND | 24 July 2009 | 1-8 pm |
Fulbourn United Reformed Church Hall, Home End, Fulbourn, CB21 5BS | 27 July 2009 | 1-8 pm |
Girton Glebe Primary School, Cambridge Road, Girton, CB3 0PN | 29 July 2009 | 1-8 pm |
Milton Community Centre, Milton, CB24 6BL | 31 July 2009 | 1-8 pm |
South Cambridgeshire District Council office, Cambourne, CB23 6EA | Monday to Friday until 9 October 2009 | 8.30 am – 5.30 pm |
At least the exhibition in the council offices does run for more than 7 hours, and it would be reasonable to assume that it will be more accessible than being located in a basement with a broken lightbulb, on display on the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the leopard’.
Still, it is disappointing that if I as a person in full time employment am not given easy access to something which I would expect to have an opinion about.
As a reminder, the consultation period runs from Friday 10 July to 12 noon on Friday 9 October 2009. There is no immediate rush to respond – please make sure your responses are as effective as they can be.
